Duriyan Leaves

Duriyan Leaves

Scientific Name: Derris spp. (Commonly referred to as Duriyan)

Duriyan leaves are an excellent addition to aquariums, offering various benefits that contribute to a balanced and natural environment for aquatic life. They help stabilize and maintain pH levels, promoting a stable aquatic ecosystem. As Duriyan leaves decompose, they release essential nutrients and organic matter into the water, providing a natural food source for fish, shrimp, and other aquatic organisms. These leaves also enhance the habitat by offering natural cover and hiding spots, which is particularly beneficial for bottom dwellers and shy species, helping to reduce stress. Additionally, Duriyan leaves release tannins that give the water a natural, slightly tinted color, simulating the conditions of tropical habitats. This addition of organic matter supports a more natural and balanced aquatic ecosystem, making Duriyan leaves ideal for aquariums housing fish, shrimp, snails, crabs, and other small aquatic invertebrates.

  1. Remove the leaves from the package and place them in the aquarium water in the desired quantity.
  2. Allow the leaves to sit for a few days until they naturally sink.
  3. For Faster Sinking: Use dechlorinated water and boil the leaves for a few minutes. Stir well, then remove the leaves and let them cool before adding them to the aquarium.
Daniel Cross :
I picked up some Duriyan leaves from this place recently, and they’ve worked wonders in my aquarium. Their unique shape and soft, earthy tones give the tank a natural, calming look. They offer perfect hiding spots for my fish and subtly help with water balance too. It’s now one of my go-to elements for fish tank decoration.
Rachel Mendes :
Adding Duriyan leaves to my terrarium was such a great decision. The texture and shape of the leaves add visual interest, and my geckos immediately took to hiding under them. I discovered them through a site that specialises in aquarium botanicals, and they’ve truly made my habitat setup more complete. Super easy to maintain too!

Belly Pods

Belly pods, from the Aegle marmelos tree, are used in aquariums to release beneficial compounds, similar to Indian almond leaves. They are beneficial for fish such as bettas, angelfish, discus, and tetras, providing natural antibacterial properties and creating a healthy aquatic environment.

Indian Almond leaves

Indian almond leaves (catappa leaves) and jackfruit leaves are beneficial for betta fish in aquariums. Indian almond leaves release tannins with antibacterial and antifungal properties, helping to maintain water quality, lower pH levels naturally, and reduce stress. Jackfruit leaves also release tannins, conditioning water and creating a natural environment that supports betta fish health and well-being.
